THERE’S a host of exciting match-ups in prospect for our teams this week, including nine of our 14 games at home.

The summer doubles season gets underway with gusto during the week as ten of our sides are in action, while this weekend sees the return of some of the highest-quality tennis around in the form of the Aegon national league.

See the picture above for the full list of fixtures for the week.

The men’s Aegon 1st team is back in action for the second of only three home matches in the highly-competitive Aegon championship. It looks to be evenly-matched on paper as ourselves and opponents Sutton Coldfield are both tied with the same number of points after three rounds, although the West Midlands outfit have won five more sets than The Brooke so far. it starts at midday and a good crowd would be much appreciated, as always, for what promises to be another Sunday of top-notch tennis.

Other highlights this week include the ladies’ 1st team opening their account in a tough away game on Friday night against always-strong Roundhill I, while the men’s 2nd’s start their season on Wednesday evening at home against Ashby Castle II.

The Premier League men’s 1st’s will be hoping to follow-up last Friday’s victory in the season-opener with another ‘W’ as they take to the road on Tuesday night to face Loughborough Greenfields. The opposition, newly-promoted this year, lost their first match 1-8 at Kibworth on Friday.

And it’s one for the club’s history books on Friday night as our men’s 8th team play their first-ever fixture at home against Rothley IV. Best of luck gents!

Good luck all!

Notes

A quirk of the schedule sees two of our teams taking on the same opponents on Wednesday as our ladies’ 2nd’s and men’s 2nd’s both face Ashby Castle. One is at home and the other away, however…the men’s 3rd team have a week off after their 5-4 heroics at Newtown Linford last Wednesday. The match was brought forward a week, creating a space in the diary for this turn…the ladies’ 3rd’s will be hoping to finally get their season started on Thursday – they tried last week at Hinckley but the match was postponed due to rain…a new venue will be tried for size by the men’s 6th this week as they travel to Knighton Tennis Centre. It’s the first time the team have played at this location and no other men’s team could remember playing a match there before either (stand to be corrected)…and it’ll hopefully be a case of ‘nothing beats experience’ for the men’s 4th’s on Friday as they face what is likely to be a potent University of Leicester 1st team in a match where the average age of the opposition will probably be more than half that of the Carisbrooke boys!
