Players are being sought for the Leicestershire Veteran Ladies Tennis Association (LVLTA) league, a fun event that has been running annually for the past 24 years.
The LVLTA was formed by a small group of friends who played tennis. They saw the need for competitive tennis for veteran ladies to play within their capabilities. Initially about 50 ladies entered the first winter tournament and currently there are more than 250 entrants. After some time it was decided to start a Super Vets summer tournament and this was introduced for the 60+ lady. Both of the tournaments are very popular.
Several Carisbrooke members have been playing in the league for a few years but they felt it would be nice to encourage some new players to join as many may not know of it’s existence or how to get involved.
People can find out more by checking out the LVLTA website here but if they are interested they have to complete an application form and send it back by Friday, August 17.
Players have to be aged 40 or over by Saturday, September 1, 2018, and need a partner.
They will receive a list of about seven other pairs to play from all over Leicestershire and these matches are designated as home/away and have to be played by the end of March.
In April there is a presentation evening at Leicestershire CCC’s cricket ground Grace Road and the players enjoy a nice meal with flowers presented to the winners and runners-up of each division, of which there were 15 last year.
Players are matched up with pairs of similar abilities and it’s a great way to meet new people, visit other clubs and play tennis through the winter.
