Carisbrooke Tennis Club is saying a big thank-you to our chairwoman of the past two years, Jenny Gilbert, after she announced at the last committee meeting that she would be stepping down at next month’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Jenny has overseen the General Management Committee during a time of significant membership uptake and impressive upgrades for the club’s facilities, not least the brand new indoor Dome which opened last autumn after many years of planning, saving and applying for grants.
Famous for helping to arrange the funeral of King Richard III at Leicester Cathedral in March 2015, Jenny has become a popular and active member of the club who is stepping down from the committee due to an increasingly busy life outside of the tennis realm.
Jenny said: “Since I became chairwoman of the committee two years ago, we’ve had a busy and successful period of major improvements and growing our membership, to mention only a couple of things.
“These things take time and effort — not just from me, the whole committee work extremely hard. Having experienced some dramatic changes at home and at work in the last 12 months, unfortunately I cannot continue to give the effort that the club both deserves and needs to thrive as it is at the moment.
“I will be stepping down as chairwoman at the AGM on Tuesday, March 27. I’ll continue to support the committee as, more than ever, I realise that you only get out of the club what you put in, and I’ve enjoyed helping to make a difference.
“Of course, this now leaves an opportunity for anyone else who would also like to make a difference, to step-up and volunteer to chair the committee. Please don’t be shy!”
For anyone interested in the chairperson’s role, nominations must be made at least 14 days before the AGM. The deadline for nominations is therefore Tuesday, March 13.
