PLANNING is now underway for one of Carisbrooke Tennis Club’s most important events of the year – the annual Open Day.

Our free Open Day will be an ideal opportunity to showcase the club to the wider community with all friends, family and non-members welcome but this year the focus will also be on encouraging current members to pop down – let’s celebrate what makes the club great and get together for a fun-filled family afternoon!

It is taking place on Saturday, July 16, from midday to 6.30pm, and has been arranged to coincide with the Lawn Tennis Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend initiative.

There are already several activities in the pipeline for the day but we would also like to hear your views and ideas. Do you have a suggestion for a fun game or would you like to run a stall at the event? All ideas are very much welcome!

Social committee member Jon Thorneycroft is co-ordinating the organisational efforts and you can contact him with your ideas by emailing

Some of the activities already planned include a free barbecue (5pm onwards), free refreshments, a supervised bouncy castle, a friendly tennis tournament, Mini-Tennis, touchtennis, coaching demonstrations, food, refreshments, games and stalls.

To make the event bigger and better than ever before, we do need volunteers to help out on the day. If you can lend a hand, please email Jon on the email above.
