Top-class tennis continued at Carisbrooke Tennis Club in 2017 with our men’s Aegon 1st team plying their trade in the very competitive National Open Men – Midlands division.

Our men’s first team managed to consolidate their status in the division last year after being promoted into this advanced tier the season before – our highest standard for several years.

This year’s season-opener took place on Sunday, April 2, 2017, when The Brooke lads travelled to north Birmingham to take on Sutton Coldfield.

Our first home fixture of the new season took place on a gorgeous, sunny day on Sunday, April 9, when we hosted the always-strong Nottinghamshire-based side Lady Bay. Last year’s match-up saw Carisbrooke whitewashed in West Bridgford but with the Brooke faithful cheering them on, we mustered an 8-4 victory after splitting the singles and winning both the doubles match-ups. There was a good atmosphere at Kenwood Road as ever with lots of families down to support and a barbecue complimenting the sunny scenes.

There was a healthy and good-natured turnout from all our supporters for the home Aegon matches this year and we thank everybody for their continued support. It really was tennis of remarkable quality and well worth a watch.

The lads finished with an excellent 5-2 record for fourth place in the table and only missed out on qualification to the highly-regarded national stages on set difference.

The club was abuzz on the same day on Sunday, April 9, when our Carisbrooke Aegon 2nd team also got their Aegon Team Tennis campaign going when entertaining Charnwood 1sts. Our second team got promoted as runners-up last year so this season they were in the higher, Leicestershire Open Men’s Division 1 but this didn’t deter the lads and the Dan Perry-captained team came away with a hard-fought 7-6 win in the stifling heat after match tiebreak shootout wins. They finished the season with a more than respectable 4-1 record for third place.
